Second day of Iditarod

Today Sunday is the second day of the great race,The Iditarod.
The first race took 2 weeks, now it may only take 9 days. Time goes by so fast even in the cold, before one know, the race will be over. I spend 7 years in McGrath and every year I would enjoy the race. Seeing new volunteers, but mainly the many return volunteers. I meet two woman one year, who came from California. They would leave their lives in California and each year go to the next Iditarod check point, starting of course in Anchorage. So in time they would have been to every check point.Started in Anchorage and end in Nome. What a vacation! Not sure what their jobs were, but at check the points there is always something to do.
Then there were the pilots who would volunteer their time and planes. To get up at 6:30 every morning to transport, dog sleds, dog and human food, hay, stoves, gear etc, to out lying areas. It was always a busy 3 weeks for them. Starting a week before the other volunteers.
